Did Latto Shade Ice Spice On New Album ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea?’
Latto dropped her anticipated album Sugar Honey Iced Tea today (Aug. 9) and fans immediately began dissecting the LP with assumptions that the Atlanta rapper threw shots at Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj on a few songs.
On the track “Settle Down,” Latto calls an unnamed person a “lap dog” to which many speculated she was speaking of Ice, who had a close musical relationship with her rival, Minaj, at one point.
“Got these bi**hes waiting for me to drop/ Know they probably waiting on me to flop/ You was just a fan before you popped/ I don’t even know you, how we ops?” she raps before adding, “Lap dog better not think she getting off the leash with me.”
Another track that had fans talking is “S/O To Me” where she calls out a few unnamed people. Listeners drew parallels from Latto’s lyrics to the Pink Friday 2 icon Minaj, Coi Leray and Ice Spice.
“It clearly doesn’t matter if you younger or double my age/ Bye sis, funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eye, sis,” she raps seemingly about Minaj.
Elsewhere she says, “Ice is just water when it melts” and “Don’t play coy with me, you know what you headed for,” which is pretty obvious who she could be talking about.
Latto clearly is with all the smoke, as she told Billboard last month, “Everybody gon’ take their lil jabs in the music, and it’s not even that serious to me; I feel like you should do that.”
Speaking to her rift with the “Deli” rhymer, she added, “But as far as actual whole dis records to each other, I don’t think she would even want to do that. I feel like… would it even make sense? It wouldn’t.”
She continued, “If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go tit for tat with. I really don’t mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes. I don’t even think she gives me like, ‘Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef.’”
