Desert Air Festival lands at Palm Springs Air Museum

The Desert Air Festival, a new event created by Splash House founder Tyler McLean and Goldenvoice, landed at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Friday and runs through Saturday.

DJ Chloe Caillet started things at 4 p.m. followed by Patrick Holland and Chris Stussy during the early evening. Jayda G, Dixon and The Martinez Brothers also performed.

But the event is more than a music festival and is offering non-musical experiences during the daytime such as an Architecture Bike Tour with Modernism Week, warbird rides at the Palm Springs Air Museum, a poolside Mezcal tasting at the Saguaro Palm Springs, a rooftop yoga session and sound bath at The Flannery Rooftop and more.

McLean, who was walking around the festival on Friday night, said he's wanted to do more events at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

"The space itself is the inspiration for Desert Air," McLean said. "It's the theme of aviation and playing on the air of the desert. It's the healing spirituality of that itself and that's what you see in the daytime affairs program we're doing. We're trying to build a well-rounded travel experience with the music out here that's built on the foundation of aviation."

McLean said he anticipates 3,000 people to attend the festival this weekend, adding the number is lighter than Splash House, which saw 7,000 people daily at Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs, The Saguaro Palm Springs, Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel and the Palm Springs Air Museum last summer.

"This is a foundation building year and getting it out of the gate, and like Splash House, you have to build it," McLean said.
