Denise Richards puts up surveillance cameras to keep teenage daughter from sneaking out
Denise Richards is isn’t the only one in her family living life on camera.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member revealed on Tuesday’s episode that she’s using surveillance cameras to monitor the whereabouts of her oldest daughter, 15-year-old Sami, whom she shares with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
“Sami’s getting into high school and new school, new boys,” said Richards, who married Aaron Phypers last year. “That’s when kids usually start sneaking out. I started sneaking out when I was 15 years old, so I know my kid’s going to sneak out. So I’m putting cameras up so I can catch her. … We’ll be able to see people sneak out or sneak in.”
Richards has also made a rule that Sami can’t date until she’s 16. Sheen is more lax.
Another Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episode featured Sami calling her dad and asking whether she was allowed to accept an invitation to the homecoming dance.
His answer: “I’ll trust your judgment if you think he’s the right person to go with.”
Richards, who’s said she was raised with strict parents and wasn’t allowed to date until she was 16, disagreed.
Richards was asked about her parenting style earlier this year.
“I wouldn’t say I have a parenting style but I was raised with consequences and being respectful,” she told the Local Moms Network. “I find some kids are entitled, and there’s a little bit in my opinion too much freedom with certain things and for me that doesn’t work. I want my kids to be respectable and pick up their rooms. It’s so difficult to be their parent, not their friend, right now. Later I can be their friend.”
At least Richards has some time before she has to worry about her younger daughters. Lola, her other daughter with the former Two and a Half Men star is 13. Eloise, who she adopted six years after her 2005 split from Sheen, is 7.
