Deadpool & Wolverine Director on if a Professor X Cameo Was Even Considered
Deadpool & Wolverine has proven to be an enormous success for Marvel Studios despite their faltering record of late. The movie has not only broken numerous box office records but also awed audiences with its unique sense of humor. Another aspect of Deadpool 3 that thoroughly pleased its viewers was the presence of meaningful yet amusing cameos. Nevertheless, one of the pivotal X-Men superheroes who was surprisingly missing from Deadpool & Wolverine was Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. Director Shawn Levy has since come out to explain Charles Xavier’s absence from his accredited MCU project.
Shawn Levy says Patrick Stewart’s Professor X cameo was ‘never discussed’
As per Levy, no plans for the character of Professor X to cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine were ever discussed.
Deadpool’s entry into the MCU marked the return of several heroes and villains from the Fox Marvel universe. While Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine unopposedly took the limelight, Deadpool 3 also saw the comeback of Sabretooth, Pyro, Azazel, and more. Consequently, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, who initially helped kickstart the X-Men franchise, was also expected to make an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The character was mentioned several times during the movie, most notably during the introduction of the villainous Cassandra Nova. However, Charles Xavier, a.k.a. Professor X, ultimately failed to make it to the big screen alongside Deadpool and Wolverine. As per Shawn Levy, the telepathic superhero was never meant to make an appearance in his film.
“Never even discussed,” the filmmaker stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast while addressing Stewart’s absence. “[He was] studied. Studied by Emma Corrin, big time, because the Cassandra siblinghood to Professor X is really interesting to us. But, no, never discussed. Never considered,” he added.
Interestingly, most of the leading superheroes from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise are missing from Deadpool’s maiden adventure in the MCU. Instead, the movie focuses on bringing back early villains from X-Men alongside other entities from the Fox Marvel universe.
