David Letterman: It's your last chance to win Paul Shaffer's 'Late Show' sign; here's how
Fans of David Letterman have a rare opportunity to win a piece of "Late Show" history and help a non-profit animal rescue, but they'll need to act fast because the deadline is Wednesday.
Letterman said Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter) that it was the "last chance" to buy a ticket for a raffle to own part of the iconic marquee that hung for years on Broadway.
The show's former musical director Paul Shaffer announced last week he's giving away the sign that appeared directly under Letterman's name: "Featuring Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra" in a raffle to help his daughter Victoria Shaffer's non-profit animal rescue, Pup Culture.
"When we closed down our show about 10 years ago, I kept a part of the marquee that had my name on it," Shaffer said in a video Tuesday. "We're now in the last 24 hours of the raffle."
Shaffer has kept the marquee in his basement, he said, and at one point vowed never to part with it. His daughter's charity work helped change his mind.
Money from the raffle, Letterman said, will be used to assist Pup Culture's animal rescue efforts in Pasadena, California, which include fostering and low-cost animal vaccinations. The non-profit also plans to start a spay and neutering clinic, Shaffer said. As of Tuesday afternoon, the raffle had raised upwards of $17,000.
In addition to the sign, the person holding the winning raffle ticket also will receive a "Late Show" jacket autographed both by Letterman and Schaffer.

How to enter the raffle
To enter for a chance to win Paul Shaffer's "Late Show" marquee sign and an autographed jacket, visit GalaBid.com.
Who can buy raffle tickets?
Organizers for the raffle said on GalaBid.com the giveaway is open to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia who are at least 18 years old at the time of entry.
How big is Paul Shaffer's sign?
Big, so raffle contestants might want to consider how much wall space they have. According to Letterman in a video posted last week to Pup Culture Rescue's Facebook page, the marquee measures in excess of 15 feet in length and roughly a foot in height.
So do you have to pick the sign up yourself, or...?
Schaffer said the sign would be delivered to the winner.
How many tickets can you buy?
As many as you want, but the online raffle ticket counter appears to tap out at 8,245 tickets.
