David Beckham Says He Had to Help Convince Victoria Beckham to Release Her Own Docuseries
Getting Victoria Beckham to sign on for her upcoming Netflix docuseries was no easy feat — and it was her husband, David Beckham, who convinced her to seal the deal.
“It took a minute to try and get her to agree with it,” David Beckham told Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria at the MIP London event, Variety reported. “It wasn’t something that was easy. I think I’m the only one who could convince her and I did, eventually.”

The docuseries will show the former Spice Girls singer in a “different light,” he adds, following her transformation from Nineties pop girl phenomenon to a fashion force with an eponymous brand. The untitled docuseries, directed by Nadia Hallgren, will take a peak behind the curtain of Victoria’s life, capturing moments with her family and confidantes, documenting her fashion label as the brand’s creative director, and featuring artifacts from her archive, according to Netflix. The streamer has yet to release a run date.
“My wife is one of the hardest working women that I know, and she’s been building her business for the last 20 years,” David continued. “There’s so many different elements of this documentary that people are going to be surprised with.”
In 2006, Victoria Beckham launched denim line dVd, an acronym for David and Victoria Beckham Beckham, and later expanded to fragrance and eyewear. Two years later, she debuted her self-titled label with a collection of spring dresses in 2008. Her fashion label now includes ready-to-wear fashion, eyewear, and leather goods.
The series follows the success of Beckham, which followed David’s rise to fame as a soccer star. The series garnered both BAFTA and Emmy nods, became an instant hit, and famously featured a scene where David had to playfully beg Victoria to “be honest” about her affluent upbringing. David and Victoria recreated the exchange in a Super Bowl commercial, and Victoria has since sold t-shirts with “My dad had a Rolls-Royce” for $150.
Nicola Howson, who was behind Beckham, and Julia Nottingham (Pamela: A Love Story; The Greatest Night in Pop) produced Victoria’s new series.
“I think it’s going to be really special,” the former soccer star added of the upcoming series. “It’s so emotional, there’s drama. And the drama’s real.”
