Dame Joan Collins’ Ridiculous Story About How Frank Sinatra Asked Her Out
The Rat Pack days were certainly wild, and on occasion we get a glimpse into that crazy past. Dame Joan Collins stopped by The Graham Norton Show and recounted a story involving music legend Frank Sinatra. The two worked together on the film The Road to Hong Kong, where the crooner took a liking to Collins. He called the actress at her home to ask her out on a date. “He said, ‘Hi, it’s Frank,’” recounted Collins. “He said, ‘How would you like to have dinner with me?’ And I said, ‘Oh, well, that would be very nice. Yes.’ He said, ‘Tomorrow.’ I said, ‘Yeah.’”
The short notice from Ol’ Blue Eyes gets a pass, but the location of the dinner was another issue entirely. “He said, ‘I’ll send my plane for you.’ I said, ‘Your plane? Where are you?’ He said, ‘Hamburg.’ I said, ‘Hamburg!?’” Collins respectfully declined due to an early call time. Even after Sinatra offered to get the call time changed, Collins was still uncertain. It didn’t end up mattering much, as Sinatra promptly hung up when he didn’t get the answer he was looking for.
