The 'Daisy Jones & The Six' Finale Left It All on the Stage
Oh, baby, look at us now! Four weeks, ten episodes, a box of tissues, and way too many hours of drama later, and we’ve finally reached the end of Daisy Jones & The Six. As anticipated, the tension within the band came to a head in the explosive two part finale. The last two episodes, which are available to stream now, dished out one bombshell after another as the band we’ve grown to love came crumbling down.
The final episode of Daisy Jones & The Six is aptly titled, “Rock and Roll Suicide.” After Billy tells Daisy he won’t leave his wife, Camila, they all travel to Chicago for the next leg of the tour. Daisy, still reeling from the conversation, delivers an emotion performance while Billy struggles with the reality of ending their relationship. Along the way, they both completely unravel and fall into old habits, while the rest of the band’s issues boil over too.
Ahead of the finale, Esquire spoke with showrunner Scott Neustadter to gather some insight on Daisy and Billy's erratic behavior. “For so much of the tour, Billy has been trying to convince himself he doesn’t need Daisy, that this is his band, that they’re better off without her, and that he's better off without her,” Neustadter said. “But the second he’s faced with the prospect of losing her, of really losing her, he knows it’s a lie."
As for Daisy’s self-destruction, well, Neustadter says that hitting rock bottom was a long time coming. “Daisy has spent the tour (if not a very large chunk of her life) believing a lie of her own—that she was invincible, “ he explained. “And now, she knows that it isn’t true. The question going into the final episodes is, how will these two epiphanies impact the trajectory of their relationship?”
If you’ve made it this far, I think it’s safe to assume you know how it all plays out. If not, please consider this your final warning to head to Amazon Prime Video and catch up. Still here? Great, then you know the band calls it quits. I guess we all saw it coming (even if you didn’t read the book!), but the way it transpired was still shocking nonetheless. if you need a refresher, we broke down every jaw-dropping moment below—from Billy and Daisy’s backstage kiss, to Karen and Graham's teary breakup, Camila's surprising death, the elusive reporter, and more.
Daisy Jones Leaves The Band—and Billy Relapses
After Billy drunkenly asks Daisy to be “broken” with him, she snaps out of their lustful haze and into reality. She does not want to be broken, or a volatile force to the people around her, so she decides to quit the band for good. While reflecting on the situation, Daisy concludes it was the best decision she ever made.
After a long-standing battle with his sobriety, Billy begins drinking again in the final episode when he believes Camila has left him. The decision sends him into a downward spiral where, instead of fighting for his wife, he runs straight into Daisy’s arms. Poor Camila!
Karen and Graham Break Up
Admist the chaos, Karen breaks up with Graham for good. Though they had a romantic story throughout the season, a surprise pregnancy makes Karen realize that she does not want to be a mother. After getting an abortion, she tells Graham she can never give him the life he desires—and so, they go their separate ways.
Julia was the reporter after all
Daisy Jones & The Six begins with the band members telling a mysterious reporter about their heyday, but we don’t learn who the person behind the camera is until the finale. It ends up being Julia, Billy and Camila’s now adult daughter, who is working on a story about her father's band.
Camilla Dies
Why do the good ones always go first? Toward the end of the finale, we learn that Camila eventually dies from health-complications, leaving Billy as a widower. Julia starts the interview series by speaking with her mother; during their conversations, she captures her perspective on the band, along with a heartwarming message for Billy—and Daisy too, whom she hasn’t spoken with in years.
Billy and Daisy Reunite
Before she dies, Camila explains that she and Billy had a wonderful marriage after the band broke up. She then records a message for Billy and tells him to give Daisy Jones a call, giving him permission to reconnect after her death. The series then ends with Billy knocking on Daisy’s door.
