Custom Hot Wheels Track Creates an Epic Backyard Course
What do you get when you combine countless Hot Wheels components, a whole lot of building materials, and months of commitment? Four-and-a-half minutes of pure bliss. As a miniature car takes you on an epic run across what might be the best toy racetrack ever constructed.
This video from the YouTube channel Backyard Racing (which we first saw at Digg) takes viewers on an epic first-person point-of-view trek through a suburban back yard. All shot entirely from a single toy car making a very long journey. Though not as long as it took to make this wild road.
This Hot Wheels MegaTrack took more than four months to construct. It required more than ingenuity and patience though. It also relies on a lot of different building materials so it’s not just one flat path. This curves up and around, over and under, and through items you would find in many backyards. Including splashing into inflatable pools, our favorite feature.
In addition to many, many Hot Wheels products, this track uses wood, ten ladders, PVC tubing, blocks, plastic container tubs, cardboard boxes, and pool noodles. With so many elements, the MegaTrack was a logistics nightmare. Physically building it wasn’t the hardest part. Designing it was. Here’s what Backyard Racing said about all of the work—and problem solving—that went into it.:
“A lot of troubleshooting took place as the body of the car we were using didn’t initially fit through a booster. 3 months of modifications/troubleshooting and 1 month of construction later and here we are! Over 30 boosters launch the car down 2,000ft of track across land, sky, and underwater making this one of the largest Hot Wheels tracks ever built!”
Not that this looks easy, but somehow it’s even more impressive knowing how hard it was to piece together. It was worth it though for this video. Especially for us. We only had to give over four minutes of our time to enjoy it. Not four months.
