Vacant in recent years, one of San Marco Square’s iconic buildings has a new tenant lined up to take over the space once home to Café on the Square, Square One and others.
Voodoo Brewing Co., a Pennsylvania-based craft brewer, is planning a location at the building at 1974 San Marco Blvd. in the heart of the historic retail district, according to plans recently filed with the state and an updated leasing flyer for the Sleiman-owned property bookended by Starbucks and Beau Outfitters.
Ponte Vedra Beach business partners Ryan Locke and Chris Rudin, doing business as Locke Rudin Enterprises LLC, plan to open a franchised location of the brewpub, according to an application filed with the state’s Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

The restaurant totaling some 8,600 square feet is planned for both floors of the Mediterranean Revival-style landmark building designed by noted architects Marsh & Saxelbye and built in the mid-1920s.
In the last 30 years, the building has been home to Café on the Square, Square One, Thai Bistro, Indochine and most recently, Bohemian Lounge.
Voodoo is known for its brews Good Vibes (West Coast IPA), Oh Mama (lager), Voodoo Love Child (fruited Belgian tripel), Where Our Secrets Go (Imperial Stout), Empty Calories (American light lager), Lacto-Kooler (berliner weisse) and other seasonal offerings.
All beer is brewed and shipped from Voodoo’s manufacturing facility in Meadville, Penn.
The restaurant’s classic pub fare, which varies slightly from one location to another, includes pizzas, burgers, salads, wraps, sandwiches as well as mac and cheese, mussels, wings and more.
Founded in Meadville, Penn., in 2005, Voodoo opened its first taproom in 2012, and has grown to at least 18 locations across seven states. The San Marco location is one of at least four in the works in Florida, including Fort Myers, Oakland Park and St. Petersburg, according to state records.
