Comedian Who Made Racist Puerto Rico Joke at Trump Rally Lands Netflix Deal
Tony Hinchcliffe, the controversial comedian who called Puerto Rico “garbage” and made other offensive jokes at a Donald Trump rally before the 2024 election, has secured a Netflix deal.
The deal includes a solo stand-up special for Hinchcliffe and three specials spun-off from his popular live comedy show/YouTube series, Kill Tony. The specials will find Hinchcliffe and some fellow panelists reacting to, and judging, stand-up sets from aspiring comedians. Hinchcliffe will be joined by a mix of established comics and celebrity guests during the specials, though a full lineup hasn’t been announced yet.

The first Kill Tony special will film at the Comedy Mothership in Austin — the venue founded by Joe Rogan — on April 7. Guests and a premiere date will be announced later.
Hinchcliffe’s success has continued rather unabated since his infamous performance opening for Trump at a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City last October. (His YouTube channel has more than two million subscribers.) Along with calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” Hinchcliffe made a racist joke about Latinos, birth control, and immigration. His set also included offensive material about Black people and watermelons, as well as calling Jewish people cheap and Palestinians rock-throwers.
At the time, Hinchcliffe received (rather impressively) bipartisan condemnation for his set. Even the Trump campaign tried to distance itself from Hinchcliffe, with one Trump ally telling Rolling Stone, “Who booked this fucking jerk? Never heard of him.”
Hinchcliffe, for his part, made a point to “apologize to absolutely nobody” in a statement shared after the event. He did, however, admit, “perhaps that venue at that time wasn’t the best fucking place to do this set at.”
Netflix’s press material announcing Hinchcliffe’s new deal and specials contained no mention of arguably his most well-known performance. Rather, they called him a “breakout star of The Roast of Tom Brady.”
