Coldplay’s ‘Paradise,’ John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ Featured as Canada Wins Dramatic Olympic Figure Skating Competition
The United States’ “Shib Sibs” brought some paradise to PyeongChang as the Winter Games’ ice dance program reached a thrilling climax.
For their final round performance, Team USA’s sibling duo Alex and Maia Shibutani skated out to Coldplay’s “Paradise,” with a brief cut of “Fix You.” The crowd loved it, and so did the judges who awarded a score of 114.86. Their total of 192.59 was good enough for bronze.

Canada’s dynamite duo of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir snatched gold with the last performance of the night – and possibly their career — set to a Moulin Rouge medley that included “Come What May” and “El Tango De Roxanne,” a track that incorporates lyrics from the Police’s “Roxanne.”
Virtue and Moir scored an unbeatable total of 206.07 for their second gold (they also won on home ice in Vancouver in 2010). They’re now the most decorated figure skaters in Winter Olympics history with five overall medals.
France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron broke records and put wardrobe malfunctions behind them to finish in second place. Skating to “Moonlight Sonata,” the pair smashed their own world record for a free dance with 123.35 points and finished with 205.28, just 0.79 points behind Virtue and Moir.
They didn’t reach the podium, but the U.S. pair of Madison Chock and Evan Bates turned heads with a performance to John Lennon’s “Imagine,” reimagined with vocals by Olivia Millerschin. Another slip up cost them a chance at a medal.
A rule change from skating’s governing body has opened up the program at the Gangneung Ice Arena for a range of rock and pop soundtracks. Songs from Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol, Christina Aguilera, Adele, David Bowie and even Pink Floyd accompanied routines.
