Cody Rhodes On WrestleMania 40 Win: This Was A Perfect Match And Moment In My Career
Cody Rhodes has some lofty goals in WWE as the newly crowned Undisputed WWE Champion.
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes was recently a guest on The Pat McAfee Show. When asked about how it felt to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania and become champion, Rhodes admitted he thought once he’d won the title, he’d feel complete, but it turns out he just wants to do more.
“I told my wife a few months ago, I said, ‘You know, if I won the WWE Championship, if I won, I think I’d feel complete,’” Cody Rhodes said. “She looked at me, and she goes, ‘No, you’ll just want more.’ The truth is, the moment [the referee] hit three, thinking I’m gonna be expended, I’m done, my soul’s left my body, all this, the moment that happened, I felt just a complete bolt of lightning in my body.
“I instantly started thinking about all the things I would like to do. Do I want to make a new list with opponents? Do I want to want to be on both shows, do I want to change the titles? She was right. I instantly went to what’s next.”
Cody Rhodes’ first title challenger to emerge on SmackDown?
When asked what’s next for him, Rhodes teased tomorrow night’s SmackDown will set the stage for his immediate future.
“Not to just kick the can down the road, but I think tonight’s Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown will probably inform our audience where we might be heading in the future. It’s all it can be, is a good tease,” Cody Rhodes said. “But I don’t feel wrong asking [the fans], follow along; this is where the fun begins, and trust me, I will never lead you guys astray. Thank you guys.”
When asked how he felt about his win at WrestleMania 40, Rhodes admitted he’s his own biggest critic but believes his Bloodline Rules match against Roman Reigns was a perfect match and moment in his career.
“I’m my own biggest critic,” Cody Rhodes admitted. “Everything can always be better, no doubt. But last night, I felt was the perfect match and the perfect moment in my career. It’s like it never ended. The moment in the ring with all the fans there in the stadium, then a moment with your peers backstage.
“Not to mention, I would never ask any of the boys to stay behind for the end of the night. Most guys like to get their bus, get to their hotel room. The fact that I got to see Jey Uso, I got to see LA Knight, I got to see CM Punk. Randy Orton, my mentor in the business, John Cena. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t ask for anything better than that, no doubt.”
