Coachella 2024: Vampire Weekend added to Weekend 1 lineup
Indie rock band Vampire Weekend was added to the lineup for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival Tuesday.
The announcement was slyly made, in true Goldenvoice style, in a post to its various social media accounts annoucing the set list had been dropped via three photos accompanied by the message "Vampire Weekend 1."
The band, which was formed in 2006 in New York City, is no stranger to Coachella. The group played the festival in 2008, 2010 and then again in 2013.
It's good — of course intentional — timing for Vampire Weekend, which just recently released its new album, "Only God Was Above Us," on April 5. The record is the band's fifth studio album, and marks the third collaboration between Vampire Weekend and their longtime producer Ariel Rechtshaid.
The new album is the follow-up to the band's 2019 album "Father of the Bride." Their last album topped the Billboard Hot 100 and garnered 2020 Grammy nominations for album of the year and a win for best alternative rock album, while the record's lead single, "Harmony Hall," scored a nod for best rock song.
The three-person band features lead singer Ezra Koenig, bassist Chris Baio and drummer Chris Tomson. The two-time Grammy winning group released a pair of new singles, “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops,” to support the new album.
Vampire Weekend's 39-date North American tour accompanying the album will include Saturday night shows at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California, KettleHouse Amphitheater in Bonner, Montana and New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Then, they'll wake up and do it again the next day on Sunday morning.
