Coachella 2022: Flume joined by a string of guests including Toro y Moi, Damon Albarn
Australian DJ Harley Edward Streten, better known as Flume, kept the crowd energized Saturday night at the Coachella Stage as he brought out a sm?rg?sbord of special guests throughout his hour-long set.
He kicked off the good times with Chaz Bear, known professionally as Toro y Moi, for "The Difference," a standalone single they collaborated on in 2020.
Flume followed up the performance with "Smoke & Retribution" with rapper Vince Staples and Australian singer Ku?ka. Staples joined Flume on stage during Weekend 1 too, and he will perform his own set beginning at 5:35 p.m. Sunday at the Sahara tent. Ku?ka also joined Flume for "Hyperreal" later in the set.
The loudest sing-along came when Australian singer May-A stepped out for "Never Be Like You." She yelled to the crowd, "I know you know the words," which only encouraged attendees to singer louder and dance harder. May-A returned to the stage to sing "Say Nothing," and as she bounced on the stage, tired festivalgoers got an energy boost and joined her.
After he joined headliner Billie Eilish on stage during Weekend 1, Blur and Gorillaz-lead singer Damon Albarn sang "Palaces," the title track off of Flume's upcoming third studio album. Accompanying the song were striking visuals, that first showed greenery before moving through a space filled with colors.
"Palaces" will be released May 20.
Flume was also joined by Laurel for "I Can't Tell." The two musicians clinked glasses and had a drink at one point on stage, which was well deserved after their energetic performance.
And just in case festivalgoers didn't get enough surprise guests, singer Caroline Polachek performed "Sirens." Polachek drew out her vocals, similar to the mythological sirens who lured sailors with their songs, but only this performance did not lead to shipwreck.
During his Weekend 1 performance, Flume was joined by Beck for “Tiny Cities" and Tove Lo for “Say It." He performed the latter song again, but jammed out on his own this time around.
Even when he wasn't joined by other singers on stage, Flume brought plenty of energy to the stage, along with vibrant video and light productions.
The DJ is no stranger to the Coachella Stage. He previously performed in 2016 and brought out Canadian singer Kai as a special guest.
Flume has remixed songs from a number of artists, including Lorde, Sam Smith, Arcade Fire, Hermitude and Disclosure. He released his first album, "Flume," in 2012, and followed it up with "Skin" in 2016, which won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
