Clue stage adaptation coming in 2017
The mystery of Clue has never been more alive: In addition to 20th Century Fox's upcoming reboot of the 1985 movie, the game will also make its way to the stage, Hasbro and The Araca Group announced Tuesday.
The new production will be adapted from the 1985 film by the original writer and director Jonathan Lynn. The stage adaptation will premiere at Bucks County Playhouse in May 2017, followed by a U.S. tour. Plans are underway for a U.K. tour as well.
“Clue is one of Hasbro’s most popular games and the 1985 film has rightfully earned its place as one of the most iconic murder mystery films of all time,” Simon Waters, Hasbro General Manager & SVP Entertainment & Consumer Products, said in a statement. “We are excited to work with The Araca Group on this unique new live production, which will capture what fans love about the original film, while offering some new and exciting surprises along the way.”
Clue isn't the only game headed to the theater: Hasbro and Broadway producing company The Araca Group previously announced they'll be giving Monopoly the stage treatment with a new musical.
The board game has previously been adapted as a stage musical, which premiered Off Broadway in 1997.
