City native bringing his comedy and music act to county fair
Jul. 5—WATERTOWN — Mike Bova is feeling pretty fair about his music and comedy nowadays.
The city native, who routinely attended the Jefferson County Fair while growing up, will bring his "One Man Comedy Concert" to the fair at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12. His show will be at the grandstand.
This year marks the 207th Jefferson County Fair, which runs July 9-14 at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
"I used to love going to the fair," Bova said. "It was a great time with the food, playing the games and the prizes. I've got a lot of great memories from the fair, so to do a concert there is so cool."
Bova is a 1983 graduate of Watertown High School and has lived in the greater Utica area since 1994. He began his comedy career in 2012 with a show at Savory Downtown, Watertown. In 2017,Bova toured the nation with comedian and actor Marc Price, putting on their "Awkward Adult Years" tour. Mr. Price played Skippy on the NBC television show, "Family Ties."
On stage, Bova mixes his stand-up comedy, much of it observational, with song parodies, where he also shows his guitar skills. His comedy tour has been raising money for America's veterans since 2012.
Bova said his county fair show will consist of comedy, his original country music, parodies and some impressions.
"It's a family friendly show," Bova said. "You can bring the kids and enjoy a great show. I'm going to make you laugh harder than you have in a long time and put on a great performance."
Bova said that all proceeds from the show will go to the fair, operated by the Jefferson County Agricultural Society. Tickets are $15, available the day of the show at the grandstand.
They can be ordered in advance at wdt.me/Bovafair. The concert is sponsored by Cazenovia Equipment.
