Christie Brinkley says modeling for 'Sports Illustrated' in her 60s meant 'sucking it in'
Christie Brinkley jokes that she’s looking forward to “greasing my joints” on the new season of Dancing With the Stars, but the truth is that the 65-year-old model still looks as fantastic as ever.
So much so that, in 2017, she returned to the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, the magazine where she was a fixture from the late ‘70s to 2004. That time, she appeared alongside her two daughters, Alexa Ray Joel and Sailor Brinkley Cook.
As Brinkley modestly tells Yahoo Entertainment, modeling for the swimsuit issue in her 60s was “all about sucking it in” and “squeezing into those suits.”
“I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t have my beautiful daughters on each side of me,” Brinkley says. “My feeling was, who’s going to be looking at me with these gorgeous girls right here? So that gave me the courage to stand there and just be like… so proud of them. And to be able to share this experience that meant so much to me in so many ways.”
Joel, now 33, is a musician, while 21-year-old Cook models full-time, just like her mom once did.
The supermodel still has very fond memories of the days when she accomplished the feat of appearing on the cover of the magazine three times in a row.
“Being able to see the world with Sports Illustrated was so much fun,” Brinkley reminisces.
She also marvels at how the magazine has evolved over the years to include more body types and in other ways.
