Chrissy Teigen reponds to backlash after 'dirty' bathwater video sparks debate
Chrissy Teigen is clapping back after being “roasted” on the internet for her “dirty” bathwater.
In a short video first shared by Teigen's husband, musician John Legend, on June 18, Teigen is shown in a bathtub filled with brown water.
“What is happening here?” Legend asks her.
“I'm getting all my body makeup off,” she replies, scrubbing her leg.
In the caption, Legend promoted an exfoliating wash from his skin care line, Loved01.
“Sometimes you gotta exfoliate!” he captioned the post, tagging his wife and her “favorite @loved01skin product.”
In the comments, people debated the cleanliness of Teigen and the color of her dirty bathwater.
“IDGAF if it is makeup,” @mzchocolatearies replied. “It looks dirty.”
“She didn't have to sit in a bath tub of water to exfoliate her body...yuck,” @garrisonnolez commented. “btw not everything is meant for social media.”
Teigen eventually hopped into the responses to clear things up.
“The water is dirty because I’m getting my body makeup off, like I said in the video my sweet angels!” she wrote in a response with more than 12,000 likes.
She took things one step further and shared the same video on June 19 in her own defense.
“Currently getting roasted online for being dirty because no one listened the the audio where I say I’m soaking off body makeup (to shower after!)” she captioned the post, noting there are “full blown fights in John’s comments.”
“My favorite is ‘baths are not for bathing,’” she said. “I love a good old fashioned roasting though, u guys are killing it (it being never touching grass ever).”
Her husband also replied to her follow up post in the comments.
“Baths are not for bathing is some amazing internet-ness,” Legend wrote.
A dermatologist previously told TODAY.com that showers are actually better for your skin, as they expose the body to less water than a bath.
Sitting in the bathwater for too long can strip the skin of natural oils, leading to breakdown and irritation and inflammation.
