Chris Hemsworth reveals why he regrets taking selfie with Billie Eilish: ‘We will never be friends’
Chris Hemsworth revealed that he regretted taking a selfie with Billie Eilish, saying he could “never be friends” with the 9-time Grammy winner as he went from a “colleague” to a “fan.”
The Melbourne-born actor, known for playing “Thor” in the Marvel Universe, was attending the 2024 Oscars alongside his wife Elsa Pataky when he ran into Eilish and asked for a quick photo for his children.
“I got a photograph with Billie Eilish at the Oscars and I remember thinking, ‘Ah, don’t do it. Don’t do it’ and I was like ‘Nah, my kids are gonna love this,’” Hemsworth shared during his Wednesday night appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The “Snow White and the Huntsman” star talked about his interaction with the singer after being quizzed on if he ever asked someone for an autograph in the late-night show’s 15-question segment “The Colbert Questionert.”
Hemsworth said that the brief moment ruined his chances of becoming friends with the “Bad Guy” hitmaker.
“The moment I took it (the photo), I was like, ‘I went from work colleague to now like a fan.’ We will never be friends, never be best friends,” Hemsworth joked.
The selfie captured the “Happier Than Ever” singer standing in between Hemsworth and Pataky inside the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Mar. 10, 2024.
The Avengers star wore a black suit with an unbuttoned white shirt as Patasky wore a bedazzled white dress with cutouts along the waist.
Hemsworth, 41, presented that night as Eilish and her older brother, Finneas O’Connell, took home an Oscar for writing the original song in the “Barbie” movie called “What Was I Made For?”
Colbert was surprised to hear Hemsworth’s fanatic experience and questioned, “Have you worked with Billie?”
Hemsworth said that he never collaborated with Eilish but were often “bumping shoulders” and were “same industry kind of colleagues.”
“Sure, me and Anthony Hopkins, work colleagues,” Colbert quipped.
Weeks after his now-regrettable photo with Eilish, Hemsworth confessed to breaking the Met Gala’s no-phones policy, according to an interview with E! News.
Hemsworth, who was tapped as one of the co-hosts for the event with Anna Wintour, admitted that he captured “heaps of selfies” during his first time at the annual fashion event.
“Selfies everywhere,” Hemsworth told the outlet. “A lot of selfies in my phone. Like, ‘When did I take that? Let’s delete that one.’”
The star added that large awards shows excite him because he lives in Australia and isn’t often surrounded by floods of celebrities in one place.
Hemsworth left Los Angeles for Australia alongside Pataky and his children in 2015 to be closer to his parents, according to Vanity Fair.
