Chevy Chase's angry voicemail to 'Community' producer
There isn’t a whole lot of that feeling of Community going on right now. In a profanity-laden voicemail, Community star Chevy Chase unleashed on the show’s creator Dan Harmon after the latter publicly reprimanded Chase in front of his family and colleagues during a speech at the NBC comedy’s wrap party.
According to Deadline, Harmon scolded Chase for walking off the set, causing Chase to respond with a scathing phone call blasting Harmon for his behavior at the party, as well as his conduct as producer (Chase allegedly became frustrated with Harmon’s tardiness in delivering scripts and stormed off, which other sources from the show confirmed to Deadline). Listen to the voicemail here.
“You didn’t give us a script to begin with so nobody knew what the f—- was going on,” said Chase in the voicemail before launching into a list of derogatory names that he attributed to Harmon. “I don’t get talked to like that by anybody, certainly not in front of my wife and daughter.”
EW reached out to Sony Television and NBC, but neither the studio nor the network would comment on the situation. A rep for Chase could not be reached.
Whether or not Chase’s angry phone message was justified, it’s well worth its weight in swear words, enough to rank up there with some of the other vicious voicemails that have made the rounds in Hollywood. Here’s a list of just some of show business’s most memorably motormouth memos (and feel free to share your favorite in the comments):
Alec Baldwin
Angry Fists (out of 5): 4
In a venomous voicemail in 2007, Baldwin verbally assaulted his 11-year-old daughter Ireland and her mother, Kim Basinger, after the former failed to answer a phone call from her father. “You have insulted me for the last time,” Baldwin erupted. “I am gonna get on a plane and I’m gonna straighten your ass out when I see you. Do you understand me? I’m gonna really make sure you get it…. You better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me, ’cause I’m gonna let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, okay?”
Alamo Drafthouse
Angry Fists: 2.5, y’all
She’s not quite a celebrity, but in the voicemail heard ’round the world, a young female moviegoer at the famed Alamo Drafthouse movie theater in Texas was kicked out of a screening in 2011 for using her phone, and responded in kind (or, not so kind) with a dramatic message for the Drafthouse. “I didn’t know that I wasn’t supposed to text in your little crappy ass theater,” she alleged. “It was too f—— dark in that place for me to find my seat.” The savvy Drafthouse folks managed to spin the voicemail into a simply hilarious in-theater PSA:
Mel Gibson
Angry Fists: MOTHERF—— FIVE!
What else is there to say about Gibsongate? In the summer of 2010, you couldn’t avoid hearing about the storied saga of Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. No, seriously, you actually couldn’t avoid hearing it. A series of tapes — demonstrating Gibson’s vast knowledge of profane vocabulary — featured the disgraced actor threatening Grigorieva, to a frightening degree:
Pat O’Brien
Angry Fists: -12
In 2005, the former Insider host placed a series of sexually graphic voicemails to an anonymous female coworker. Claiming that it was a case of drunk dialing and citing his admission into rehab for alcoholism, O’Brien’s messages nevertheless spread around the Internet like a full jar of sexy, steamy Nutella:
