Hillary and Chelsea Clinton aren’t your typical mother-daughter duo.
Clinton proved that she’s her mom’s biggest cheerleader when she introduced the presidential hopeful with a touching speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday evening.
Clinton began by talking about being a mother to Charlotte, 22 months, and Aidan, 5 weeks, has given her a newfound appreciation for her own mother.
“Every day that I spend as Charlotte and Aidan’s mother, I think about my own mother – my wonderful, thoughtful, hilarious mother,” she said, before sharing several childhood memories.
“That feeling of being values and loved, that’s what my mom wants for every child,” Clinton, 36, said. “It’s the calling of her life.”
Clinton shared that, as Hillary’s daughter, she’s had a “special window” into Hillary’s lifelong devotion to public service.
“People ask me all the time, ‘How does she do it? How does she keep going amid the sound and the fury of politics?’ ” Clinton said. “Here’s how: It’s because she never ever forgets who she’s fighting for.”
The self-proclaimed “proud daughter” finished: “She’s a listener and a doer. She’s a woman driven by compassion, by faith, by a fierce sense of justice and a heart full of love.”
“I am so grateful to be her daughter. I am so grateful that she is Charlotte and Aidan’s grandmother. She makes me proud every single day,” Clinton said.
While Clinton was speaking, Hillary shared a photo on Instagram of her proudly watching her daughter’s speech.
Earlier Thursday, Clinton spoke to Today‘s Matt Lauer about the “working mom moment” she had while practicing her DNC address.
“Yesterday, I was breastfeeding Aidan and practicing with [Clinton campaign speechwriter] Megan, and she was giving me feedback and I was exchanging ideas,” she said. “Even Aidan has contributed to the speech.”

The mom of two also shared that this year’s election is about more to her than just supporting her mother.
“As proud as I am of my mom, this election to me is fundamentally about my children, about Charlotte and Aidan,” Clinton said. “And I couldn’t imagine a better president for them. I couldn’t imagine a better grandmother for them, either.”
