Celebrate National Library Week with a pop-up library at Duffy’s Garage

PETOSKEY — Join the Petoskey District Library at Duffy’s Garage, 317 E. Lake St., from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 for a pop-up library to celebrate National Library Week with beer, books and fun activities.

At the pop-up library, attendees can learn about library services, play a game and sign up for a library card. Duffy’s is donating $1 of every draft beer purchased during National Library Week to the Petoskey District Library to support their Library of Things collection.

National Library Week, April 23–29, is a time to celebrate libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support. The theme for 2023, “There’s more to the story” is intended to remind communities that libraries are more than just books. Petoskey’s Library of Things lends items like museum passes, games, musical instruments and tools. Library programming also includes entertainment, education and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes and lectures. Library infrastructure provides internet and technology access, literacy skills and support for businesses, job seekers and entrepreneurs.

According to the American Library Association, Celebration Days during National Library Week include:

• Monday, April 24: Right to Read Day, the State of America's Libraries Report is released, including the Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2022.

• Tuesday, April 25: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the contributions made by all library workers.

• Wednesday, April 26: National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day), a day to celebrate library outreach and the library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are.

• Thursday, April 27: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries.
