Cedar Point, Kings Island roller coasters are some of the best. Check out the rankings
Everyone knows that Cedar Point and Kings Island are the best for roller coasters. And now the amusement parks have another trophy to back up that claim.
The National Amusement Park Historical Association named coasters at the two parks at or near the top of its list of favorites in its annual survey. And that's not the only ranking that lists the parks and their coasters.
The Beast at Kings Island named a favorite wooden roller coaster
Per the survey, the amusement park association's favorite wooden coasters are:
No. 1: Phoenix, Knoebels (Elysburg, Pennsylvania)
No. 2 (tie): The Beast, Kings Island (Mason, Ohio)
No. 2 (tie): Boulder Dash, Lake Compounce (Bristol, Connecticut)
Cedar Point's Millennium Force named best steel roller coaster
Likewise, the association's favorite steel coasters are:
No. 1 (tie): Millennium Force, Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)
No. 1 (tie): Phantom’s Revenge, Kennywood (West Mifflin, Pennsylvania)
Cedar Point, Kings Island have seven steel coasters on Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards Top 50
The roller coasters at Cedar Point and Kings Island are also racking up honors in other rankings, including the Golden Ticket Awards from Amusement Today.
Cedar Point's steel roller coasters were ranked:
Millennium Force, No. 2
Steel Vengeance, No. 4
Maverick, No. 9 (tie)
Magnum XL-200, No. 30
Kings Island's steel coasters were ranked:
Diamondback, No. 26
Orion, No. 27
Banshee, No. 41 (tie)
Kings Island has two Golden Ticket Awards Top 50 wooden coasters
Kings Island has two coasters ranked in Golden Ticket Awards Top 50 for wooden coasters. They are:
Beast, No. 6
Mystic Timbers, No. 7
USA TODAY 10Best awards
In USA TODAY's 10Best Awards, decided by readers, Cedar Point was ranked No. 10 in the nation.
"Located on a Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio, Cedar Point bills itself as 'the roller coaster capital of the world' with 18 thrilling coasters covering more than 10 miles of track," the ranking found. "The park's history dates back to 1870, making it the second-oldest continually operated amusement park on the continent, and it's managed to maintain that classic park feel, complete with a generously sized midway and one of the only operating D.C. Muller carousels in the world."
The Sandusky park also was No. 5 for Best Theme Park Hotel, Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point.
Kings Island earned a mention on the Theme Park Festivals You Can't Miss list at No. 5 for its "Under the Stars" show.
