CBS’ Watson Trailer Flashes Back to Sherlock Holmes’ Death — Watch
Morris Chestnut stars as the titular doc in the new CBS procedural Watson — and if you’re wondering where his Sherlock Holmes is, a new trailer offers a big clue.
CBS unveiled the trailer (which you can watch above) on Wednesday, with Chestnut playing Dr. John Watson, the head of a clinic that treats rare disorders. “The story of our lives… is written inside of us before we’re ever born,” he declares while gazing through a microscope at pulsing red blood cells. He’s dedicated his life to solving medical mysteries (“Solve a mystery, save a life”), and he’s assembled a team of genius doctors to help: “Our patients don’t need doctors. Our patients need detectives.”

Dr. Watson is carrying some trauma of his own, though: We see a flashback to him in the woods watching Sherlock struggle with an armed assailant before tumbling into a raging river. “I was trying to help him,” he recalls. “Sherlock didn’t have to die.” (And the fact that his clinic is called The Holmes Clinic means that Sherlock is never far from his mind.)
Watson — premiering Sunday, Jan. 26 following the AFC Championship Game on CBS — is set “six months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty,” according to the official synopsis. “Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though – Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century.”
