CBS, Australia’s Stan Pact For Showtime Programming In Latest Offshore Deal

A week after it announced a pan-European deal with Sky, CBS Corp has pacted with Australian streaming service, Stan, to bring Showtime programming Down Under. Stan, a joint venture between Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media which has amassed 700K subscriptions since launching in 2015, will have exclusive rights to all future Showtime series and hundreds of hours of existing shows. The long-term pact also gives Stan an exclusive license to the Showtime brand and trademark, making it the official home of Showtime in Oz.

The agreement actually kicked off earlier this week with the premiere of Billions, following its U.S. debut. In 2017, Stan will also exclusively premiere Twin Peaks. The deal further includes exclusive SVOD rights to CBS and The CW series such as Madam Secretary, Limitless, ELementary, Beauty And The Beast and Reign. All episodes of every Star Trek television series will also be available on Stan.

The partnership marks the most significant content licensing deal in recent Australian television history, and positions Stan well in the competitive SVOD market.

This deal adds to CBS’ Sky pact and a similar agreement with Bell Media in Canada as Showtime continues its global expansion. As with the other deals, current rights arrangements with other platforms in Australia will remain unchanged, with series migrating to Stan for SVOD as permitted when existing commitments expire.
