Cast Reunites for ‘Back to the Future’ Day
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: Back to the Future Day! On Today Matt Lauer brought in the film’s stars, Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson, to reflect on the film. In the franchise’s mythos Oct. 21, 2015, is the date Doc and Marty travel to the future in Back to the Future II. It also coincides with the release of the first Back to the Future movie 30 years ago.
The original script for BTTF was rejected dozens of times before finally being given a chance. Despite its zany premise and some of the suggestive subject matter involving a mother-son time paradox crush, Lea Thompson was onboard from the start. “I always had a strange sense of humor,” the actress said, and she also understands why that turned certain studios off to the idea of producing the movie. Lloyd recounted the natural chemistry he had with Fox, who was a late addition to BTTF after replacing Eric Stoltz, saying, “It never had to be manufactured — nobody had to say, you know, work for this kind of chemistry. It was there, it was innate.”
Back to the Future is without a doubt one of the best time-travel movies ever, one that’s been immortalized with a phrase that Lloyd says is the quote he hears most often from fans: “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”
