Cardi B Reveals Whether Or Not She Was Paid To Endorse VP Kamala Harris In Presidential Race
Over the years, Cardi B has consistently been outspoken about politics and social justice matters, so it was no surprise when she appeared at a VP Kamala Harris’ rally to voice her support. The Bronx rapper took the stage at Harris’ When We Vote We Win Rally in Milwaukee, WI, earlier this month, and she recently clarified she was not paid a dime to be there.
Candace Owens reached out to the mother of three on X, writing, “Hey @iamcardib — Working on a story and was wondering if you were in any way paid to speak at the Kamala campaign event you spoke at. Thanks in advance!”
“I didn’t get paid a dollar and that’s on my three!!” Cardi swiftly confirmed before revealing that she even spent her own money to be there. “I actually came out of pocket for glam and travel because it’s somewhere I wanted to be.. Like please girl you know damn well I’ll argue you down about politics FOR FREE.”
On the day of the rally, Cardi was visibly nervous as she read a 10-minute speech she wrote on her phone, saying she “took my time writing this speech, so I’ma make sure I deliver it right ’cause I got something I’ve been wanting to say for a long time.” She also added she has been waiting for an opportunity like this for her entire life.
“Like Kamala Harris, I’ve been the underdog, underestimated, and had my success belittled,” the “Bodak Yellow” rapper said during her speech. “I didn’t have faith in any candidates until she joined and spoke the words I wanted to hear about the future of this country… Kamala recognizes that this country is at risk, and that we need to strengthen our economy and address the rising cost of living.”
She also commended Harris for “really [putting] up a fight against all the odds that were already stacked against you!” Watch the speech below.
As the Harris-Walz campaign came to an official close, critiques about buying the support of major figures and celebrities have been circling the web. Another person who was accused of being paid a significant amount of money by the VP’s team was Oprah Winfrey. She recently responded to the allegations about her accepting $1 million in exchange for her support.
“These days I realize that if you don’t stop a lie, it just gets bigger. I was not paid a dime. My time and energy was my way of support the campaign,” the legendary host commented on Instagram.
“For the live-streaming event in September, my production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers, and every other item necessary (including the benches and chairs we sat on) to put on a live production,” she added. “I did not take any personal fee. However the people who worked on the production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.”
