Propelled by demand for the two stars, the play recouped its $7 million capitalization during the course of its 20-week run. The production also touted having “the youngest ticket buying audience” in Broadway history, with 14 percent of purchasers between the ages of 18 and 24, compared to the current industry average of 3 percent.
All In: Comedy About Love also completed its Broadway run at the Hudson Theatre last week, bringing in $1.53 million for its final rotating cast featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hank Azaria, Annaleigh Ashford and Tim Meadows. The show recouped its capitalization and announced a return engagement next season.
Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical played one preview performance last week at the Golden Theatre, and went on despite having an unlit marquee as a result of President Trump’s tariffs. The specialty light bulbs required for the marquee are primarily sourced from a China-based vendor, according to the production, and the shipment was held up at customs due to recently the enacted tariffs.
The musical, which comes to Broadway after a run on the West End, started out strong by playing to 100 percent capacity and bringing in $111,460.
Wicked held on to its title as the highest-grossing show of the week, bringing in $2.6 million over the holiday weekend. The musical was followed by Hamilton with $1.9 million, The Lion King with $1.8 million, The Outsiders with $1.55 million and All In.
