Britney Spears To Continue Child Support Payments For Son Jayden Until He Graduates High School
Britney Spears' son Jayden James Federline celebrated his 18th birthday on Thursday, and the event was thought to signal the end of her child support obligations.
However, reports have emerged suggesting that she would have to continue paying child support to her estranged husband, Kevin Federline, at least for the next two months because of a clause in their divorce proceedings.
Britney Spears has also had a strained relationship with her kids and is reportedly looking to reconcile with the young men.
Why Britney Spears Will Continue Paying Child Support To Ex-Husband Kevin Federline
According to TMZ, the "Toxic" singer will continue paying child support to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, for her son Jayden despite him recently turning 18.
A source with inside knowledge told the news outlet that a clause in Spears and Federline's divorce stipulated that the pop star would cease paying child support on Jayden's 18th birthday or when he graduates high school, whichever is later.
Jayden will reportedly graduate from his Hawaiian high school in November, so the child support will continue until then. It means his mom would make payments for October and November before it all ends.
Last month, Spears allegedly cut the child support payment in half without informing Federline's camp. This seemingly led to a standoff, during which the struggling DJ's team argued that if they ended up in court, the judge would grant him more than half of the amount because of his fixed expenses.
They reportedly agreed that the singer would pay $20,000 a month and a "significant amount of money" to cover those fixed expenses.
Britney Spears Is Reconciling With Her Sons
The 42-year-old singer's relationship with her sons is understood to have been on the mend recently, following years of estrangement.
According to TMZ, they're now "occasionally speaking" over the phone instead of using text as their main means of communication.
Jayden and Sean Preston reportedly cut off ties with their superstar mom, in part due to their reported embarrassment about her raunchy social media posts.
In July, a source told US Weekly that Spears "has been reaching out to her sons more and wants to start spending more time with them when they are ready."
They currently live in Hawaii with Federline and his current wife, Victoria Prince, plus his four other children – two of whom he fathered with Prince and two with his ex-fiancée, Shar Jackson.
He has since denied that he moved to the state to take advantage of a legal loophole that would extend the singer's child support payments.
The Singer Gave Her Ex-Husband Enough Money To 'Support An Entire Family'
Initial reports suggested that the "Gimme More" singer would stop paying child support to Federline once Jayden marked his 18th birthday.
Spears has been paying child support to her estranged husband for the care of their kids for the past 17 years, which has reportedly accrued to a total of $5 million.
A source told the Daily Mail that the cessation of the payments is sure to leave a sour taste in Federline's mouth as it'll mean he'll struggle to maintain his lifestyle.
"The amount of money Britney has given Kevin for the two boys is extraordinary and it is enough for any man to support an entire family, which is what she believes he has done," the source explained.
Kevin Federline Received $480,000 After Requesting For An Increase
Spears and Federline's marriage hit the rocks over 17 years ago, which led to her filing for divorce in November 2006, just eight weeks after they welcomed Jayden.
She cited "irreconcilable differences" in her filing and was granted joint legal and physical custody over their two children in their subsequent divorce settlement at the time.
However, following her very public breakdown at the time, coupled with an incident that saw her lock herself in a room with Jayden, an L.A. court awarded full custody of their sons to Federline in 2008.
According to the Daily Mail, court documents show that Federline has received $240,000 per year for the care of Jayden and Sean Preston from 2007 until 2017. That amount was increased by court order to $480,000 per year in 2018 after he made a legal appeal for her to increase her payments to $20,000 a month per child.
Britney Spears Recently Reunited With Her Lover Paul Richard Soliz
Spears reunited with Paul Richard Soliz shortly after slamming him on social media. This quick reunion reportedly sparked concern among her loved ones.
Sources told TMZ that the singer's family and friends, including her brother Bryan, were "confused and concerned" about her reconnecting with Soliz just weeks after what seemed like a messy split.
Insiders claim that the "Toxic" hitmaker had assured everyone at the time of their split that she was done with Soliz, even instructing her gate guards to permanently remove him from the guest list.
Soliz's criminal background is the primary concern among the singer's close ones. Additionally, Spears had previously felt that Soliz was exploiting her, which set off alarm bells for many within her circle as they questioned why he was still in her life.
