Brian Kilmeade likens border detention facilities to house parties: '100 people over and you have two and a half baths'
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade can’t agree on the conditions of detention centers at the border.
Ocasio-Cortez visited a holding facility in Texas on Monday, finding them to be horrifying and below standards that she expected.
“There is abuse in these facilities,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “There is abuse. This is them on their best behavior and they put them in rooms with no running water. And these women were told by CBP officers to drink out of the toilet. They were drinking water out of the toilet. And that was them knowing a congressional visit was coming.”
On Tuesday’s edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s statement, likening the detention facility to a house party.
“Picture yourself, you have a house, family of five,” Kilmeade said. “You have a party 30 people over. Maybe you have a big party and 100 people over and you have two and a half baths. Okay with 30. After 100 maybe a little bit taxed, get an outdoor facility. Can you picture 5,000?”
The Fox & Friends co-host got a quick response from Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter.
Hey, @kilmeade:
What was the last “party” you went to where you:
- Were locked in a cage under armed guard
- Drank out of a toilet
- & given food of such poor nutritional value, for so long, that it gave you mouth sores? https://t.co/UfO8EQzRbI— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 2, 2019
Many commenters agreed with Ocasio-Cortez:
Ahh, all the house parties we were forced to stay at for weeks on end, without showers and potable water...oh wait.

Who would’ve imagined even just a few years ago that any mainstream news outlet—even Fox News—would be willing to excuse American concentration camps? And yet, there it is. Any who still thinks it can’t happen here? It’s happening here. Right now.

Kilmeade then responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet:
They aren’t cages- they r dividers that @BarackObama engineered 2 separate unaccompanied kids from adults ask @DHSgov - they were never meant to house 690k people in 6 mo’s- Border Patrol R patriots & u have done NOTHING to help, except rant about unverified stories https://t.co/FT6COGfYRo

Some Twitter uses agreed with Kilmeade’s overall message:
No. he made analogy that people could relate to, to highlight why a massive unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants causes issues at detention centres not set up to accommodate those numbers.
Because most people have been to crowded house parties, not detention centres. 🙄— 521 Phil (@5to1pvpast) July 2, 2019
You’re really missing the point here. These ppl are flowing over the border by the hundreds of thousands. How are we supposed to provide for that many people, They are choosing to come here and if it really that bad they can choose to go home.
