The Boston Celtics Are Reportedly Eyeing J.R. Smith In Free Agency
J.R Smith is unfortunately still a free agent and won’t take a pay cut from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New York Daily News reports. Ohio’s NBA team is offering $10-11 million, while Smith is eyeing $15 million a year, roughly what Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors is making annually.
After contributing 12.4 points per game and excelling on defense during the NBA Championship last year, it looks like Smith will be searching for a new home. LeBron James apparently wants Smith back on the squad, and has referred to the free agent frenzy as “sh*t he doesn’t want to go through again.”
Smith is receiving attention from the Boston Celtics who are willing to clear up $6 million worth of cap space just to acquire Smith on their roster. The Celtics are reportedly eyeing a sixth man that can come off the bench and be a scoring machine. Smith most certainly would love to continue his career in Cleveland, but business is business and time is becoming a factor.
So will Dan Gilbert pay up for Smith, or let him walk?
