Blake Lively's most shocking scene in 'A Simple Favor' was shot on her birthday (SPOILERS!)
Warning: Spoilers for A Simple Favor below.
We won’t tell you whether it’s a flashback, a dream sequence, or one of the film’s many crazy plot twists — but at some point in A Simple Favor, Blake Lively plays a waterlogged corpse. Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment before the opening of the modern noir, the actress and director Paul Feig recalled shooting the gruesome scene… on Lively’s birthday in August 2017, no less. Watch the interview above.
“I FaceTimed everyone I knew and I was like, ‘This is 30!’” Lively told Yahoo Entertainment and co-star Anna Kendrick with a laugh. “Because [I] was not only a dead body, but a body that had been in the water for a week.”
“I got really claustrophobic,” she added, “because there’s so much [make-up] on you, and there was this teeth paint and these big contact lenses that cover your entire eyeball, and they zip you up inside a body bag…”
Feig, whose previous films include comedies like Bridesmaids and Spy, was a little shocked when he learned about the research required for Lively’s death scene. “The horrifying thing is our head of makeup came in one day and she was like, ‘OK, I’ve got some pictures of drowned corpses we need to look at!’” he said. Feig noted that Lively, who also helped design her character’s striking wardrobe, helped to refine the details of the gory makeup. The result, as Kendrick told Lively: “You’re a beautiful dead body.”
A Simple Favor is now playing in theaters.
