Big K.R.I.T. Delivers Powerful Performance Addressing Police Brutality at 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards
During the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday night (Oct. 4), Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. donned a cop’s uniform and delivered a powerful verse addressing police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement.
“Mommas been crying, and they gon’ keep cryin,” began K.R.I.T. “Black folk been dying and they gon’ keep dyin’/ The police been firing and they gon’ keep firing/ The government been lyin’ and they gon’ keep lyin’.”

K.R.I.T. continued from the POV of an officer to a person of color. “I hate patrollin’ your space/ Why you livin’?” he asked before declaring “I can’t forgive it.”
In July, Big K.R.I.T. split from his former label, Def Jam Records, to helm his new production company, MULTI. “I’ve always had my creative control but people just grow apart. The business was also changing, and it just happened. It is was it is,” he explained to Billboard on the red carpet before the Hip Hop Awards taped on Saturday (Sept. 17). “I’m not going to elaborate into the extreme. It’s definitely a longer story but for the most part, it’s no love lost.”
