The Band Perry release new single 'Comeback Kid'
Country sibling trio the Band Perry returned Monday with their first new single with Interscope Records, “Comeback Kid.” It’s their first single since last year’s “Live Forever,” and the time since has seen the group split from their longtime record label Big Machine’s Republic Nashville. This new song reflects their strained year.
“‘Comeback Kid’ is the story of anybody who’s walked through a challenging moment and come out on the other side of it, landing on their feet,” Kimberly Perry told EW in a recent interview. “If you’ve followed our story, you know that we’ve gone through quite a transition. There were a lot of voices trying to tell their version of our story, so ‘Comeback Kid’ is the live narrative of what we were thinking and feeling during those months.”
She describes the new single as, “one of the toughest ones that we’ve ever recorded,” adding, “it took us three tries to get it right.” The band strived for perfection in the recording studio. “It was a really important lyric to us and we wanted to give it the right bed of music to rest of, but it was written by just Neil, Reid, and myself so that’s special, and we got to co-produce it, that’s the first time that we’ve gotten to do that.”
The new single blends pop with country mixing 808s and banjos. “It has everything that we kind of get excited about,” Kimberly says. “But it’s a very simple song.”
