'Artistry of Sound' event to benefit Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra
Feb. 21—The Terre Haute Symphony League announced a new fundraiser to support the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
"Artistry of Sound" will feature a musical recital by the Angelus Duo centered around Paul Jenkins' painting "Phenomena Near Baber Woods," which is on display at the Swope Art Museum.
The program is set for 2 p.m. April 14 at the museum on the third floor.
During the performance, the duo will play "...yet so close," written by Terre Haute native Jack Nesser.
Nesser is an award-winning composer, flutist, conductor, music educator and high school student. He was the winner of the 2022 Hayes School of Music Composition Contest, band division, for his work "On the Chippewa." Nesser has been commissioned by the Terre Haute Children's Choir, Ivory Winds and The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra League to write various chamber and vocal works to be performed across the state of Indiana.
Sisters Melissa and Melanie Mashner grew up performing together at an early age long before establishing professional careers in music. Now as the Angelus Duo, they enjoy professional engagements throughout the Midwest and Northeastern United States, including recent performances with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra and the Southeast Michigan Flute Association, according to a release.
