Effie Angelova was the first woman to accuse the now-disgraced actor of abuse back in 2021, prompting numerous other women to come forward with allegations of sexual violence, emotional manipulation and more.
Now, in another plea for justice, Angelova has taken matters into her own hands once more with yet more details about her relationship with the Call Me By Your Name actor, 37, who she allegedly began dating in 2016 when she was just 20 years old.
“I know what I am doing the whole time I’m doing it,” Angelova claims the actor texted her in summer 2017 after he allegedly raped her in April. In 2021, Angelova’s claims prompted the Los Angeles Police Department to open an investigation. In May 2023, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office determined that Hammer will not face criminal charges related to the claims. Thus, Angelova’s quest for her story to be validated has continued on her social media accounts and now in the form of an essay shared on Medium.
“You deserved way better… All signs here point to my fault. And I know I said this before but I am so sorry. So, so sorry,” Hammer alleged texted in 2017, seemingly acknowledging the sexual abuse.
Later, in 2019, Angelova alleges that he reached out again, claiming to be reformed after therapy. As Angelova notes in her essay, this alleged text was sent the same year he met Courtney Vucekovich who would later claim their relationship left her with PTSD. Another of Hammer’s exes, Paige Lorenze, also claimed that, in 2020, the actor carved the letter ‘A’ into her skin during their allegedly traumatic relationship.
In Angelova’s essay, she claims that Hammer’s pleas for forgiveness were soon followed up with yet more expressions of his desire to commit violence against her. “I’ll choke you to death and as you die you will be holding a rope to a contraption that will cut my throat so as we die we feel the warmth of my blood covering us. But please know that’s not why I reached out. The beast took over,” Hammer allegedly wrote.
The actor’s alleged text messages radiate between love-bombing to gruesome threats and cruel taunting frequently. Angelova lists hundreds of statements seemingly transcribed from their texts and emails all the way up until 2020, before Angelova first spoke out in early 2021.
While the actor has not attempted to return to public life after being dropped from upcoming projects when the allegations were first publicized, he has never been prosecuted for any of the acts several women have accused him of doing.
When asked why she has opted to continue to speak out against Hammer despite law enforcement not pursuing her claims, Angelova told us she does so to champion and defend other survivors.
“Every day I’m suffering from the trauma and complex post-traumatic stress disorder my rapist has caused me. I feel scared to speak about my trauma because I know I will be bullied, harassed and threatened by rapist supporters either way, as I have been ever since I reported my rape to law enforcement,” she told us. “I want rapists to be held accountable, regards of how popular the rapist is. I hope me speaking out today helps fellow survivors feel less alone. I want to empower other survivors to use their voice. Support survivors, not rapists.”
