Another business bought out the lease of this Neapolitan pizza restaurant in the East Village
Franka Pizzeria, the purveyor of Neapolitan pizzas in the East Village, closed on Sept. 16. The restaurant space at 111 E. Grand Ave. was sold to “another local business,” according to a popup on the Franka website.
Franka remains open in Clive at 12695 University Ave. with a menu of Caprese sandwiches, roasted mushroom grilled cheeses, salads such as a Green Goddess or chopped salad, and Neapolitan pizzas cooked in a wood-fired stove.
The location with a patio, a modern looks and windows from floor to ceiling also offers a weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays with breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, flatbreads, eggs and pancakes.
This location in Clive opened in 2021 four months after the original debuted in the former home of St. Kilda Surf and Turf in the East Village. That fish-forward restaurant opened in 2019. Franka and St. Kilda are owned by Alexander and Whitney Hall, who also run three locations of St. Kilda south of MLK Parkway in Des Moines, in Valley Junction and in Clive.
