Victoria Monét has received co-signs from legends including Janet Jackson, Usher, President Barack Obama, Jimmy Jam, Kelly Rowland, and now Anita Baker.
In February 2022, the JAGUAR II singer tweeted, “I wanna make a classic love song that Anita Baker would be proud of.” Fast forward to January 2024, and Baker believes Monét has “already done” so.
The songstress replied to Monét’s manifestation with “You’ve Already Done it @VictoriaMonet By Using *ALL of Your Gifts. *How does it feel* is A Melodic Masterpiece. CONGRATULATIONS on ALL your, well deserved Nominations & Accolades & Keeping R&B in Your World/Your Generation.”
In response to Baker, the “On My Mama” singer wrote, “WOW!! This is such an honor and a dream come true!!! My gratitude for you and your art has always been immense and now to speak to you through mine feels so golden!! I love you to the stars and I thank you for these flowers! I’m in awe hope to hug you soon.”
The “Rapture” singer lated chimed in, “Watching You Manifest Your Dreams, Is Truly, A Beautiful Thing. Never stop Creating ENJOY.”
During her fireside chat at the Grammy Museum in late December, Jimmy Jam also praised “How Does It Make You Feel” for its masterful composition. The record, which is up for Best R&B Performance, is one of seven nominations Monét earned from the Recording Academy for the upcoming 2024 Grammys.
Back when the nominations were announced, her manager, Rachelle Jean-Louis, praised how Monét’s work ethic mirrors the icons who came before her. “Victoria is one of the most dedicated perfectionists I’ve ever met — in the way that I imagine the greats I’ve always respected were when they created some of the most important albums of our time,” Jean-Louis told Billboard.
Both JAGUAR II and “On My Mama” topped VIBE‘s Best R&B Albums and Songs lists of 2023, respectively.
