Angela Bassett Serves Drama in Lacy Dolce & Gabbana Look Topped With Leopard Print Coat & Platform Pumps at ‘Zero Day’ World Premiere
Angela Bassett showed off a glamorous look at the world premiere of Netflix’s “Zero Day” at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on Tuesday night.
The actress hit the premiere’s jet-black carpet in a head-turning, head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana look, that included a black ensemble that appeared to be a blouse and skirt set. She wore what looked like a floral lace blouse featuring a silky front placket and a pointed collar with a bustier-style bodysuit underneath.

The outfit, which was styled by Jennifer Austin, was complete with a figure-hugging black pencil skirt that hit just below the knees. The “Black Panther” actress also notably accessorized with black satin gloves and hoop earrings.
On top of everything, she added a dramatic floor-length leopard print fur coat. As for shoes, Bassett slipped into a pair of classic platform pumps, opting for a pair of satin round toe platform pumps also from Dolce & Gabbana that complemented her getup effortlessly.
Black platform pumps are one of the most popular red carpet shoe styles among celebrities. Coming in other finishes — like smooth leather, suede, and velvet — black heels with hefty platform soles that offer a bit of a lift are ubiquitous in Hollywood. A bevy of brands make similar silhouettes to the ones Bassett reached for on Tuesday evening. Brian Atwood, Casadei, Gianvioto Rossi, Charlotte Olympia, and Valentino are just some of the labels known for offering black platform stilettos.
Other celebrities who often showcased height-boosting platforms on and off the red carpet include Jennifer Lopez, Sabrina Carpenter, Sofia Vergara, and Taylor Swift. In recent years, larger-than-life platform styles accompanied by soaring heels have become a major trend. Variations from luxury brands come in a wide range of colorways and designs to choose from these days. From color blocking to crystal embellishments to pony hair uppers, the options are vast. Past appearances have seen Bassett step out in platform leather boots and strappy silver metallic platform sandals.
Bassett co-stars alongside Robert DeNiro in Netflix’s new political conspiracy thriller. In “Zero Day,” President Evelyn Mitchell (Bassett) summons former U.S. president Geoge Mullen (DeNiro) to find the source of a deadly global cyberattack. The show’s IMDB description reads, “In the midst of crisis: how can we discover the truth when it seems that the world is being destroyed by uncontrollable forces? Also, to what extent are conspiracy theories our own inventions or products of our imagination?”
The six-episode series also stars Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Dan Stevens, and Connie Britton. You can stream it on Thursday (Feb. 20).
