Andy Cohen makes heartfelt plea while celebrating son's 1st birthday
Andy Cohen used the "Mazel of the Day" segment on Tuesday's Watch What Happens Live to celebrate son Ben's first birthday. He also used Ben's birthday to advocate for surrogacy to be legal everywhere.
"You know, he was born in California a year ago tonight with the help of an amazing surrogate, to whom I am so grateful," said Cohen. "And I’m hopeful that we can make surrogacy legal here, in the state of New York, and the other three states in the union where it’s not legal."
Gestational surrogacy for pay is a controversial topic. New York legislators tried to pass a bill legalizing the practice, but too many concerns were raised by representatives and the bill failed.
While there are some potential concerns, Cohen pointed out there are also a lot of positives. He said, "Couples dealing with infertility and other members of the LGBTQ community can experience the love I feel when I look at my son.”
Considering Cohen revealed that he was expecting a baby on Watch What Happens Live, it seems fitting that he celebrated Ben's monumental achievement on the show as well. And while he posted birthday wishes to Ben on Instagram, nothing tops birthday wishes on national television.
Andy end by saying, “You know, Ben, I would change all the poopy diapers in the world if it meant I got to be your dad. Happy birthday.”
Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen airs Sunday to Thursday at 11 p.m. on Bravo.
