‘American Idol’ finalist from Gonzales to perform at Back Yard Blues Jam Fest in September
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Meet Damon and Tameeka Stewart, owners of The Blues Cafe and founders of the Louisiana Red Beans and Rice Heritage and Music Festival.
This year, they’re looking to make another splash in the community with the Back Yard Blues Jam Fest that is coming to Baton Rouge in late September.
“So, we tried to bring Louisiana artists to an area where family can come out, the children can come out, the pets can come out, everybody can come out and enjoy free music,” said Tameeka.
This year’s headliner at the Back Yard Blues Jam Fest will be Jovin Webb, a former “American Idol” contestant and Gonzales native. Webb was featured on season 18 of “American Idol” and made it as a Top 11 finalist.

“The experience was out of this world, like, I’m from Louisiana. I haven’t been to too many places. So, that open it up for me to do a lot of traveling and just seeing all these talented musicians. And to be honest, I constantly woke up every day, how am I here? So, every day was just a new experience and a new wow,” said Webb.
Webb says he’s glad to give back to the community, being that he’s from Louisiana and headlining a free event in the heart of Baton Rouge.
“It’s amazing to be able to be able to give back and really represent for them, for the town, for the city, Baton Rouge, because it is as deep as they are. It feels nice. Get rid of it, you know, to show the people when we have the blues still alive. Getting musicians still alive and we’re here and a new generation of them getting ready to broadcast everybody what we have,” said Webb.

Damon says he’s glad to have such an inspiring performer headlining the festival and he hopes others can understand the value of blues.
“If we can all come together and just like, accept the blues, man, you know, it’s just a good feeling. So, I encourage everyone to come out, enjoy themselves, listen to some good, authentic blues music. You get a little rock, feel the jazz, feel more than anything, bring your kids, so they can be introduced to the blues,” said Damon.
