Amber Tamblyn says she gave her dad, Russ Tamblyn, an edible before“ The View” interview
"I gave him an edible before we got here."
Amber Tamblyn knows the right way to take a little time to enjoy The View.
The actress and her Oscar-nominated father, Hollywood legend and West Side Story star Russ Tamblyn, stopped by the daytime talk show Tuesday to promote the latter's memoir Dancing on the Edge — and the performer's daughter revealed he might've been on the edge of a different kind of feeling as they sat for their joint interview.
"I used it in all the films I did. If I did a Western, I was able to leap on the back of a horse. Yeah, look at that, that was pretty, uh..." Russ, 89, said, trailing off as he watched a clip of himself tumbling through a scene in one of his classic films, before Amber, 40, cut him off to joke: "I gave him an edible before we got here," she quipped. "Sorry, I interrupted you! You were able to leap on the back of a horse!"
The Seven Brides for Seven Brothers actor also fielded questions about his signature moves on the sets of various productions — and a story he told in the book about teaching Elvis Presley how to shimmy his hips.
Russ also reflected on his time filming West Side Story before the musical's 1961 release, including fond memories of co-director Jerome Robbins' approach to adapting the star's tumbling skills for the project.
"I never studied ballet or anything, so when I did West Side Story, you'll notice that Jerome Robbins gave me a lot of strutting to do," Russ said with a laugh. "Everybody was dancing behind me, and I was just having a good time!"
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
