Alt In Our Stars Podcast: Hear Kim Gordon’s Haunting New Song, Plus the Sonic Youth Co-Founder Reads From Her Memoir ‘Girl in a Band’
Kim Gordon’s autobiography drops Feb. 24 (via HarperCollins) and it’s the first must-read music book of the year. On this week’s edition of Billboard’s alternative and rock music podcast, we’re excited to premiere the first few pages of Girl in a Band via the audiobook version, read by Kim herself.
The excerpt brings us to Sonic Youth’s final gig — a Nov. 14, 2011 festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil — and Gordon has some harsh words for Thurston Moore.

But that’s not all. At the end of the show — after host Chris Payne and Billboard editor/writer Tye Comer give their Kim and Sonic Youth insights — we’re treated to the premiere of new music from Kim. It’s a sparse, bone-chilling guitar-and-vocals cut called “Close Your Eyes,” which Gordon wrote for the ballet Les Biches, a part of London’s Frieze Art Fair in fall 2014. Listen to the end for a little instrumental surprise that adds to the song’s haunting persona.
