Allen Hughes to direct History Channel's 'Roots' miniseries remake

The History Channel announced that Allen Hughes will helm its Roots miniseries remake. 

Hughes previously directed features such as Broken City, The Book of Eli alongside brother, Albert Hughes, and the pilot for the Fox series, Gang Related. Hughes will also executive produce the project with Mark Wolper and Marc Toberoff, with a script by Mark Rosenthal and Larry Konner. Wolper’s father, David L. Wolper, produced the original 1977 miniseries based on Alex Haley’s novel, Roots: The Saga Of An American Family. The cast for the project has yet to be announced.
