Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, and Pete Townshend Perform at 2024 Tony Awards, Sarah Paulson and Daniel Radcliffe Among Big Winners, Nick Jonas to Make Broadway Return in 2025
Tony Awards 2024 features guest performances by Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, and The Who's Pete Townshend. Alicia Keys joined the cast of her now Tony Award winning musical Hell's Kitchen Sunday to perform 'Empire State of Mind,' trading off verses with actress Maleah Joi Moon, who won the award for Leading Actress in a Musical later in the night. The performance also featured a surprise appearance by Jay-Z, singing side by side with Keys to perform the 2009 hit song. In a later performance by the Tony nominated revival cast of The Who's Tommy , The Who frontman Pete Townshend stepped on stage to introduce the number and perform 'Pinball Wizard' alongside the cast. Big first-time Tony winners include Sarah Paulson, Daniel Radcliffe, Jeremy Strong, and Jonathan Groff. Paulson took home the award for Best Actress in a Play for her role in Appropriate , which also took home the award for Best Revival of a Play. Jeremy Strong took home the award for Leading Actor in a Play for his role in the critically acclaimed An Enemy of the People . Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff each took home awards for their roles in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along . Radcliffe took home the Tony for Featured Actor in a Musical, and Groff for Leading Actor in a Musical. Merrily We Roll Along also won Best Revival of a Musical at Sunday night's ceremony. Nick Jonas returning to Broadway in 2025 production of The Last Five Years. Jonas will star alongside Tony-winner Adrienne Warren in the new production of Jason Robert Brown's hit musical. The show is set to open Spring of 2025 and will run for a strictly limited 14-week engagement. This will be Jonas' first appearance in a Broadway musical since the 2011 revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying . Jonas also starred on Broadway alongside brothers Joe and Kevin in the Jonas Brothers' concert residency at New York's Marquis Theatre in March of 2023.
