Alex Edelman Wins First Emmy For Writing For A Variety Special & Remembers Collaborator Adam Brace In Emotional Acceptance Speech
Alex Edelman won at the 2024 Emmys for Alex Edelman: Just For Us in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special category.
This was Edelman’s first win competing against Netflix’s Jacqueline Novak: Get On Your Knees, HBO Max’s John Early: Now More Than Ever, Netflix’s Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man and The Pool, and ABC’s The Oscars.

“Thank you so much for this. This is, Oh God, I’m going to cry in front of Carol Burnett, fantastic,” Edelman said as he took the stage to receive his award. “I made this with my great collaborator Adam Brace, who passed away right before we started on Broadway and this huge group of people rushed in to fill that void.”

Edelman thanked the people who helped with his special, including his crew, producers, and HBO, who “let us make a special that we really wanted to make.”
“This is really, really beautiful,” he continued. “I really miss Adam but it was the end of a seven-year journey with the show, but I got to make something really funny with my friends.”
