When Solange Knowles last put out a record, George W. Bush was president and Beyoncé was Sasha Fierce. Much has changed since then (we see you, Barack and Blue Ivy!), and that includes Bey’s cool kid sis. Now signed to a boutique Brooklyn label and working with trending producer Dev Hynes, she fully embraces the indie world’s trappings on EP standouts like ”Losing You,” nimbly weaving relaxed avant-pop grooves with old-school R&B flavor. The strong ’80s nostalgia here could wear thin for some, but Solange’s singular charms stretch far. B+ —Ray Rahman

Paloma Faith, Fall to Grace
Heartbreak albums are a delicate business. Somehow, though, this flame-haired London import wails through 12 cutting tracks about love on the rocks — see highlights ”30 Minute Love Affair” and ”Picking Up the Pieces” — with so much soulful realness, you won’t need to be going through your own relationship mess to fall for Grace. Scott Walker, Bish Bosch
The 30 Century Man’s enduring enigma is stronger and scarier than ever on his violently gorgeous 14th album. The nearly mythical experimental-pop champion even sics his operatic quiver and muscular guitars on some (almost) accessible stuff, like the sinister ”Phrasing.” Currently a month shy of turning 70, Walker sounds like he may truly be immortal.
