Roker said he had “great surgeons” for his five-hour surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC on Nov. 9. He’s since been on the mend thanks to a “lot of love from my family,” including wife Deborah Roberts and his children, as well as from his Today family.
“I feel good, I really do,” he reported before quipping that He quipped that he felt even better after getting the “catheter out.”

Next in his recovery is continuing to exercise, which he’s been documenting on social media. Then “the first week of January, I’ll go and have blood work and hopefully my PSA,” or prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by normal cells of the prostate gland, “has dropped considerably. For the next five years, I’ll get tested every six months.”
Talking about all the love he’s received, Roker called himself a “blessed man,” adding, “Usually you’re dead when you get all of this love. This is happy.”
He also shared a funny message from his office before appearing on the first three hours of Monday’s shows, declaring, “I’m backkkk!”
Roberts, who works for NBC rival ABC, shared a sweet message upon her husband’s return to work as well.
“Monday moment of gratitude. No matter which network you pull for...there’s no denying that we are all pulling for @alroker who is offering up a lesson in grace and grit. Happy to see you light up morning television again. Never been prouder of you dear,” she wrote.
Roker has been sharing his cancer journey with Today viewers. On Nov. 6, he announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer, detected during a routine exam in September and that it was a “little aggressive.” So he was having surgery to remove his prostate as well as some lymph nodes.
He was positive about it, saying on Today, “I don't want people thinking, ‘Oh, poor Al,’ because I’m gonna be OK.”
Along with his doctor Vincent Laudone, Roker appeared on the show last week remotely to share an update. Laudone said “everything looks very favorable” at this point “based on how the surgery went and based on his pathology report.”
Laudone also noted that “Al has no evidence of any cancer, but we will continue to monitor him for several years."
