Al Jazeera Reporter Stands By Alleged Peyton Manning Doping Story
Al Jazeera’s Deborah Davies sat down with Today’s Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly to discuss the controversy surrounding NFL star Peyton Manning. An Al Jazeera documentary titled The Dark Side: The Secret World of Sports Doping alleges that Peyton’s wife, Ashley, received shipments of human growth hormone, commonly known as HGH. “The allegation in the program is very simple. That when Charlie Sly worked [at] Guyer during part of his training, his rotation for pharmacy, the clinic was sending out not one shipment, but repeated shipments of growth hormone to Ashley Manning in Florida. That’s it. That’s the allegation,” explained Davies.
At the center of the chaos is Charlie Sly, who made the initial allegations that the Guyer Institute sent HGH to Ashley, as well as other drugs to notable athletes. Sly has since recanted his statements, saying he was badgered and under emotional duress at the time of the recording. Despite being grilled by Daly and Guthrie, Davies never accused Peyton Manning of using HGH.
